Question 1: Explain the important network characteristics of dynamics networks such
as bus system, multistage network and cross bar switches.

Question 2: Analyze the data dependence among the following statements in a given programme:

S4 : Add R2, R1

Question 3: Discuss the paging and segmentation schemes in the Intel i486 microprocessor.

Question 4: (a) Explain the following terms as applied to multiprocessors and
Multicomputers:
• Network Communication latency
• Network partitioning for multicast communication
• Virtual Network and Sub network
• Store and formed routing at packet level.

(b) Why was distributed memory chosen over shared memory?

Question 1: Answer the following questions with respect to pipelining:

(i) What is pipelining ? How it is different from vector processing?
(ii) What are advantages of a pipeline architecture over non-pipelined
architecture ?
(iii) Draw an arithmetic pipeline and its related space-time diagram of the
following operation:
Ai + Bi * Ci for i = to 6
(iv) Calculate the speed factor of a pipeline for the following parameters
tp – 20 ms (clock time for a pipeline system)
k = no of stages = 4
tn = clocktime for a nonpipeline system
n = 100 (no of tasks)
(v) Also calculate the speedup factor of a superpipelined and
superpipelined superscalar architecture
(vi) Explain pipeline stalling concept through an example:

Question 2: Answer the following with respect to cache and memory architecture:

(i) Factors affecting cache hit ratio
(ii) Memory bandwidth and fault tolerance
(iii) The main memory of a computer is organized as 64 block, with a block size of eight words. The cache has eight block frames. In parts (a) through (d), show the mappings from the numbered blocks in main memory to the block frames in the cache. Draw all lines showing the mappings as clearly as possible.

(a) Show the direct mapping and address bits that identify the tag field, the block number, and the word number.
(b) Show the fully associative mapping and the address bits that identify the tag field and the work number.
(c) Show the two-way set-associative mapping and the address bits that identify the tag field, the set number, and the word number.
(d) Show the sector mapping with four blocks per sector and the address bits that identify the sector number, the block number, and the word number.
