Question 1: Survey your program center and perform the following tasks:

(i) Sketch the schematic diagram of the network consisting of hubs, switches, bridges, servers and various computers.

Answer: - Sketch of the schematic diagram of the network consisting of hubs, switches bridges, servers and various computers is

Fig: - Program Center

Hub: Hub is a central device in a topology that provides a common connection among the nodes. Hub is an instrument, which is used in LAN, detects following problem like cable breaks bad, topes a loose connection. These are devices which is used LAN for connection of two low speed to high speed and vice versa phi. A switch contains high speed back plan and room for 4 to 32 plugs in line cards.

Bridge: Many organization have multiple LAN’s and with to connect them. LAN’s can be connected by devices called bridge. When operate in the data layer. This statement means that bridge do no examine the network layer header and can thus copy. IPX and OSI packets equally well. In contrast, a pure, IPX or OSI router can handle only on native packets.

Server:A server is a complete that provides data, software and hardware resources (Like printer) that are shared on the LAN, A LAN can have more then one ever. Each server various types of server.

  • Dedicated Server.
  • None dedicated.
  • File Server.
  • Printer Server.
  • Modem Server.

(ii) Number of machines connected in the network along With their complete configuration.

Answer:

UNIX Server
Window
Serve

Configuration:- P-III Processor, 20GB Hard disk, 128 MB RAM, Monitor 17” and Mouse etc.

(iii) Number of ports of the Hub with specification.

Answer: Hub is central device in a star topology that provides a common connection among the nodes. Hub is an instruction which is used in LAN detect following problems like cable breaks, and topes a loose connection.

Various types of Hubs are available in the market. These are

  • 8 port HUB.
  • 16 port HUB.
  • 24 port HUB

Generally we used 24 port Hub in LAN network we use CAT5 cable and speed of that cable in 10 Mbps.

(iv) Describe feature of the server machine.

Answer: - The various features of the server machine.

Windows Server:- Multiple connections are connected via server using active directory this go users the centralized administration of server we can assign right to user.

UNIX Server: UNIX servers have multiple connection are connected via server, using active directory this go users the centralized authorized administration of server. We can assign rights to user.

File Manager: A file server sores files that LAN workstations can access. It also decides on the right and restrictions that the user need to have while accessing fills on the LAN.

Printer Server: A printer 5 servers takes care of the printing requirements of number of a workstations (Remember one of the main advantage of LAN is that it helps the workstations share hardware resources like printers). The printer server typically stores the files to be printed on its disk and then executes these requests (i.e. prints these files) on a first in first out basis.

Modem Server: A modem server allows LAN users to use a modem to transit long distance messages. Typically in a organization only a few users would need to use the modem. A single modem server modem serer attached to one or two modems would need to use the modem.

(v) List of applications running on the network with their brief description.

Answer: The various application running on the network. These are

  • Send mail system (Email).
  • Printer services.
  • Turbo C.
  • Active directory services.
  • Internet using proxy server.
  • FTP.
  • Telnet.

1. Send mail System (E-mail): -

Electronic mail; E-mail is a system used over internet to transfer messages. It consists of two sub system. The user agents which move the message from source to destination.

E-mail system supports following give basic function:

  • Composition.
  • Transfer.
  • Reporting.
  • Displaying.
  • Disposition.

2. Printer Service:

When we do work on network we needs printer services give the print command and get take the paper. Printing services is very important thing when we need some paper work this service providing the printing facility.

3. Turbo C:

The user also used Turbo C on the network the user like to work on Turbo C. The network provides the facility of Turbo C.

4. FTP:

File transfer protocol is used to access and download file over internet. It requires a FTP server to run FTP protocol for the FTP server with ftp: //. Faster fetching IP address of host from DNS using host name the browser than established a TCP connection to host over that connection. It sends the file name using ftp: // prefix.

(vi) Describe briefly about the speed of the LAN and the protocol.

Answer: Speed of the LAN is 10/100 Mbps and the protocol is used TCP/IP protocol. Internet protocol TCP/IP is a set of protocols developed to allow computers of all sizes from different vendors, running different operating system, to communicate or to share resources.

There is no official TCP/IP protocol model as these in the case of OSI. However, based on the protocol standards that have been developed, we can organize the communication take for TCP/IP in four relatively independent layers.

  1. Host to Network layer / Physical layer + Data link layer.
  2. Internet layer.
  3. Transport layer.
  4. Application layer.
Application layer
Transport layer
Internet layer
Host- to- n/w layer

(vii) Describe the specification of cable used and its length.

Answer: Cat 5 cable is used and its length 500 meters, (5 x 100 = 500)
Cable range: -

In the extended network the range of number allotted for use by existing nodes on the several touching network number. Nodes address is determined by their cable range value.

(viii) Describe the networking features of the Server Operating Systems.

Answer: Features of the server operating system is the various feature of server operating system are given below: -

  • Active directory system.
  • Printer service.
  • Turbo service.
  • Send mail system.
  • Internet using proxy server.
  • FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
  • Telnet.
  • E-mail (Electronic Mail).
  • X.400, X.500
  • WWW (World Wide Web)
  • DNS (Domain Name Service)

(ix) What security measures have been taken to protect H/W and S/W resources of study center?

Ans: In study center for security of H/W and S/W resources we can,

  1. ust go to the LAN setting and disable the network connection whom to be disconnected.
  2. Use UPS.
